Privacy Policy
What stays on your iPhone, what online features share, and what you control.
Updated October 6, 2026
On your iPhone
Kavaná stores settings, selected locations, personal calendar dates, and Prayer Mode choices on your device. Local settings may also be included in backups managed by Apple. The siddur's bundled text works offline. A Kavaná account is not required.
Screen Time uses Apple's permission system and privacy-protecting selection tokens. Kavaná does not upload your app selection or a browsing history to its server.
Location and calendar
With your permission, the app uses your location for prayer times, Shabbat times, and the Kotel compass. You can choose a place manually instead. Optional Always location supports Prayer Mode at places you save, even while the app is closed.
Apple handles map and place-search requests. Calendar requests to Hebcal include dates and regional settings; the weekly parashah request currently includes your selected coordinates and time zone. These services can receive normal request metadata such as your IP address.
Rav and AI providers
Before using Rav, you choose whether to allow AI sharing. Your question and recent conversation are sent to the Kavaná server on Cloudflare, then to DeepInfra to generate an answer. Anthropic may also receive that conversation when it supplies the answer or a fallback.
Rav conversations are kept in app memory rather than saved as chat files. The Kavaná server does not intentionally store a chat history in its subscriber database. Infrastructure and AI providers may process or retain requests under their own terms and privacy practices. Clearing a conversation on your phone does not delete copies already processed by those providers.
Do not include sensitive personal information in questions. You can revoke AI sharing in Settings. The siddur and other local features remain available.
Optional Thursday email
If you subscribe, Kavaná sends your email address, selected coordinates, place, time zone, and Shabbat settings to its Cloudflare server. The subscriber record is stored there to prepare your weekly email.
Hebcal receives location and time-zone details to calculate the email's times. Anthropic receives the place and weekly reading context to write its learning text. Resend receives your email address and the message to deliver it.
Use 'Stop receiving it' in the app to unsubscribe. This deletes the active subscriber record from Kavaná's store. Providers may retain delivery or security logs under their own policies.
This website
This site does not use Kavaná advertising trackers, marketing cookies, or analytics scripts. Its hosting provider, Vercel, and its infrastructure providers may process IP addresses and request information for delivery and security. The site has no newsletter or account-registration form.
We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app advertising.
Your choices
Change location permission in iPhone Settings, choose a manual place in Kavaná, and disable Prayer Mode or revoke Screen Time access when you wish. Clear a Rav conversation with 'New question', and revoke further AI sharing in Kavaná Settings.
Unsubscribe before removing the app if you receive the Thursday email. Removing the app removes its ordinary local app data; backups and records held by providers follow their own retention rules.
For access, correction, deletion, or other privacy requests, contact the developer through the support contact on Kavaná's App Store listing. Rights available to you depend on where you live.
Changes
We will update this policy when the app's data practices change and explain material changes in the app or on this website. The date above identifies this version.
